Blending
a heritage aesthetic with contemporary building materials and
processes is an Oakbourne specialty. An example of this marriage
is the delightful home we call "Pearmain Cottage".
The traditional oak frame of this house is only visible from within.
The exterior walls are constucted using the SIPS panel building
system. SIPS stands for structural insulated panel system. Essentially
the wall panels are custom built for your home from a layer of
ridgid foam insulating material sandwiched between two layers
of OSB or, oriented strand board, an updated version of plywood.
The exterior finish of the house is stucco with a tile roof and
is accented with an oak entrance that at once charms and invites.
At
the rear of the building one wall is finished with a lapped siding,
an attractive detail that could be employed on the entire exterior
with equal success. Inside the decor is an artistic blend of furnishings
and finishes. Contemporary lighting and appliances, very traditional
"shakeresque" cabinetry, unique plumbing fixtures, wood
and granite countertops and a combination of tile, oak and carpet
on the floors, create a warm and cozy ambience that is comforting
and inspiring.
